Cave City student drivers will be dismissed to GO HOME today at 2:30. Busses will run at normal time this afternoon. Also, school will be closed tomorrow, February 3rd due to being under a winter weather warning. A determination of whether to come Friday will be made tomorrow.
The Cave City School District will be closed for in person learning this Thursday and Friday. We will be using AMI Days 3 & 4. This morning we had over 300 students absent and at least 20 employees. We understand that closing school puts a hardship on many working families and that students need to be in school. But 25% of our student population is a significant number, not to mention the staffing difficulties we are having. Hopefully pairing these two days with the weekend will give those who are sick an opportunity to heal, and will slow the increasing spread of sickness in our school and community.
The Cave City District added an additional 20 covid positive cases today. As was the case last week, there continue to be many additional absences due to other sickness in the district. We also believe there to be additional positive covid cases in our school population that have not contacted us at this time. Of our new active cases today, one is an employee, and 19 students: 7 HS, 6 MS, and 6 Elem. We will have school tomorrow and busses will run. We will continue to monitor student absences and consider using additional AMI days if necessary. If your student tests positive on an At Home test, please let us know for documentation purposes. We appreciate everyone for your cooperation and your support. We know closing school is a hardship for parents and for students. But the safety of our students and employees may require us to do so if necessary.
The Cave City District currently has 14 documented active cases. We believe there to be additional positive cases in our school population that have not contacted us at this time. Of our active cases, 9 are employees, and at least five students: 3 HS, 1 MS, and 1 Elem. New protocol requires active cases and probable close contacts to isolate/quarantine for five days. If no symptoms are evident on day 6, they may return to the general population as long as they wear a mask for an additional 5 days. We will have school tomorrow and busses will run. If your student tests positive on an At Home test, please let us know for documentation purposes. We appreciate everyone for your cooperation and your support.

The Cave City District will be closed for onsite learning this Thursday and Friday due to excessive employee and student absences. We will use AMI days and pivot to virtual learning on those days. School will be open Wednesday and busses will run. However, if parents would like to keep their student home tomorrow in an abundance of caution, your child’s absence will be excused. Today we had 28 employees absent with sickness and almost 20 percent of our students were absent as well. Some of the absences were covid related due to isolation or quarantine, but most were related to stomach virus, flu, and seasonal colds. But, covid cases are certainly on the rise in our school and community, so hopefully this action will mitigate the spread of it as well. School will also be closed on Monday for MLK Day. We hope to return to school safely on Tuesday, January 18th . We appreciate your understanding and your continued support.

Students in 6-8 received their 2nd 9 week report cards today, ask them about their 1st semester goals. This month we are working on Habit 4: Think Win-Win. This is a belief that everyone can win! It encourages us to be happy when good things happen to others. This helps you to stay positive and build relationships with your peers.
The Cave City District was made aware of positive covid cases since our return from Christmas Break. Five students have tested positive. Two from Elem. , one from MS, and two from HS. During our break, five staff members tested positive but all will be cleared this week. At the moment, masks are only recommended and not required, in accordance with our policy based on the ACHI index, but this will likely change soon as positive cases continue to increase in our community. Please screen your students daily for potential symptoms including sore throat, cough, fever, as they could be symptoms of the new omicron variant.
Our rules for isolation for positive cases continues to be ten days for students and staff. And Rules for quarantine still establish that if both the positive case AND the probable close contact are wearing masks, there will be no requirement for the PCC to quarantine as long as they do not develop symptoms. Also, vaccinated students will not have to quarantine as long as they exhibit no symptoms. Those who ARE quarantined can return in seven days if they attain a negative test from a health care professional five days after their exposure to a positive case.
Some of our local people are teaming with the Cave City Fire Department to organize a toy drive to help kids in the Truman area who were recently impacted by tornadoes. For any parents and community members who would like to help, please feel free to drop off a new toy either at the Cave City Fire Department or at one of our campuses. New toys will be delivered to Truman at noon this Friday. Parents who are able, might consider sending an age appropriate toy or gift that would match their own students age. Thank you in advance for anything that you could do.

On Friday November 19, 2021, Cave City School District is partnering with the Arkansas Department of Health to provide COVID-19 vaccines to students ages 5-11 years old. If you would like your child to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for this age group, please contact the Cave City Elementary Office or the Elementary Nurse's office as soon as possible. We need to have an estimate of how many students will receive the vaccine. When you call, please provide your child's name, and a vaccine consent packet will be sent home with your child. REMEMBER, only those students with completed paperwork will be allowed to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the school immunization clinic. Please also keep in mind that kindergarten students will be required to have a parent present with them on November 19th, in order to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
